Case study · Local visibility
From the edge of the map to the top of it in Bude
This case study is about JW, a solo therapist in Bude, Cornwall. In June 2026 their Google Business Profile appeared on the map across the whole town. But it was rarely one of the top three results people actually click. Over a six-week trial, the team behind RippleKeep measured the problem and sharpened their local signals. JW also made some changes on their own website. By the 5 August scan they were the leading map result for "counsellor bude" across the Bude grid.
This work was a six-week marketing trial run by RippleKeep in June–August 2026. It was not a long-running RippleKeep subscription. We've kept the practice anonymous and use initials only. Results are from the dated scans shown below. Local rankings move, so we quote them as "in that scan", not a permanent position.

The starting point
JW was already visible. LocalFalcon scans 49 points in a 3-mile grid around Bude, and they appeared at all 49. The problem was strength, not presence. They sat at an average map position of 4.84 and made the top three in only about 6% of the grid. The practices leading the search had no Google reviews at all. They were winning on relevance: "counselling" in their business name, and a tight focus on Bude.
So the job was not "get more reviews". It was to help Google clearly understand what JW does and where they do it.
What we did
- 1
Measured it properly.
A baseline LocalFalcon scan and a competitor breakdown for "counsellor bude", so the gap was visible, not guessed.
- 2
Sharpened Google Business Profile relevance.
We anchored the profile around counselling in Bude and kept the website's own pages focused on what they are for, such as couples counselling. The site and the profile work together instead of competing.
- 3
Made the details consistent.
We produced a name, address and phone standardisation guide and audited the main counselling directories, so Google sees the same facts everywhere.
- 4
Supported the website, didn't take it over.
We provided keyword research and page recommendations. JW made the website changes themselves: a cleaner design, couples-focused content, and reconnecting pages that had become orphaned.
- 5
Kept reviews simple and respectful.
We set up one easy review link JW can share when it feels appropriate. There are no automated requests, and no review drive to clients. In counselling, privacy comes first, and JW chose a passive-only approach.
- 6
Rescanned and reported.
Follow-up scans on 19 July and 5 August tracked what moved.
| Scan | Share of Local Voice | Average map position | Found in grid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 June 2026 | 6.12% | 4.84 | 49/49 |
| 19 July 2026 | 61.22% | 3.16 | 49/49 |
| 5 August 2026 | 100.00% | 1.90 | 49/49 |
What we're careful about
- Rankings move. These are results from specific scans on specific dates, not a guarantee.
- Reviews weren't the lever here. JW went from 0 to 2 Google reviews in this period. Relevance and consistency did most of the work.
- We can't claim every new booking. JW reported moving from about 6 bookings a week in May to 11 by early August. They were already running Google Ads, and they made their own website improvements. We see the visibility gain as one part of that picture, not the whole of it.
- No client information used. This work only covered the practice's public marketing: its Google profile, directories, website and local search. It never involved client details, notes or anything clinical.
What this means for your business
Reviews matter, but they are only one trust signal. Many local businesses are already visible. They just are not being picked. A RippleKeep Google review health check starts in the same place this project did: measure where you stand locally, find the gaps a new customer notices, and fix the simple things first.
